All That's Sacred, Episode #28

Episode #28 is now available.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for taking the time to listen and contribute to the podcast. This year has been a real battle for me (for a number of reasons that I won’t bore you with), but this little experiment of mine has been an enormous bright spot despite the dark days. It’s been an amazing learning experience and creative outlet but most importantly, it’s been really incredible connecting with so many of you from all over the globe. So again, many thanks and well wishes to all of you this holiday.

Episode #28 is dedicated to contributions via the new podcast voicemail – 707-SACRED9 (707-722-7339). I have high hopes that this addition to the podcast will allow for greater interaction and connectivity. It’s been a real kick to hear from you all more directly and I think we’re off to a promising start. I appreciate those of you who were game enough to call and get the ball rolling. Keep ‘em coming!

Not a whole lot of band news to comment on. Rumors are bubbling about a European tour in 2010 just as the Oz tour is wrapping up. Fingers crossed with high hopes for the coming year!

Then head to our forums to discuss it!

Europe 2010?

Well, well, well ... look what Grunge Report unearthed!

I'm guessing that CBS didn't vet the announcement of this contest with Pearl Jam.

All That's Sacred, Episode #27

Episode #27 is now available.

As promised, episode #27 revisits some of our favorite front man’s better politically-inspired rants. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, it’s definitely an eye-opener to look back a few years to re-examine how the band was processing the world around them. As the country became more polarized and with Pearl Jam being one of the more socially and politically active bands around, it was inevitable that the tours during the Bush years were going to yield some compelling moments.

As an aside, I wanted to thank those who took the plunge and called the podcast voicemail last week. In an effort to make the podcast more interactive, I set up a Google Voice account for the podcast at 707-SACRED9 (707-722-7339). I’ve been stoked at the response so far and I’ve decided to dedicate #28 entirely to listener voicemails and requests. I still need a few more to round out a complete show so I implore a few more of you to call in and contribute.

Thanks for the continued support and listenership. As always, I love hearing from y’all. Hit me up via emailFacebookTwitter, or the new voicemail. Take care and hope you folks “down under” are having a blast at the shows!

Just Breathe at Austin City Limits

Pearl Jam has release a gorgeous video of Just Breathe.  It's footage from this Saturday's Austin City Limits broadcast.  Sadly, they have disabled embedding, but if you want to catch some good Vedder/Cameron harmonization you can click here to enjoy it or buy it on iTunes.

Thanks to RM Poster, Riot Actor 25, for the scans of Drum! Magazine.  I'll link to his scans below or you can check out the Red Mosquito Forum.

All That's Sacred, Episode #26

Episode #26 is now available.

Greetings! Last week’s rant podcast was a screaming success with 600+ downloads to date! We’ll be revisiting the rants on #27 but in the meantime, episode #26 highlights some touring rarities from past Australian shows. The guys are kicking off the tour “Down Under” this Saturday in Perth and I thought it was only fitting to do something to help get our friends in the South Pacific ready for the awesomeness that is Pearl Jam.

I talk about this for a minute on the podcast, but I wanted to take a moment here to introduce the podcast voicemail. I set up a Google Voice account over the weekend and now you can call in your stories and requests! I can then export the messages into an mp3 and cut it right into the podcast. It’s just the latest idea I had to make the podcast even more interactive and allow y’all to participate more directly and actually be on the podcast. I’m hopeful some of you will give it a go and I’m eager to hear what you got. The number is 707-SACRED9 (707-722-7339). Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Thanks, as always, for tuning and checking out the podcast. I also appreciate all the suggestions and correspondence. I’m thinking of doing a 2009 tour highlights show in the coming weeks so let me know if you have any suggestions. I have a few ideas, but I’d really like to know what you think would be cool to play and why. Try the voicemail if you’re feeling adventurous or you can always still contact me via email,Facebook, or Twitter. Thanks again and enjoy #26.

Grunge by Michael Lavine

Just in time for Christmas, Michael Lavine's photo book, Grunge, (with text by Thurston Moore) which the Seattle Times describes as "a look at the punk scene on the streets and in the clubs of Seattle that gave rise to Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam and more" hits shelves (November 10th).  The Seattle Times has several sample pages.

Double A-Side

PJCollectors.com has found an artifact that gives us some idea of what is meant by the term "double A-side."  It appears as though British radio stations were given both singles and allowed to choose between Got Some and Just Breathe based on their format, programming, and/or mood.

Ed Recommends Leatherman Book

When I first saw this brief letter by Eddie Vedder recommending that his listeners read The Old Leatherman by Dan W. DeLuca, I wasn't going to bother posting it.

Dear Listeners,

I was recently sent a book that I thought some of you more hardcore folks might find interesting.

It’s called The Old Leather Man written by Dan DeLuca. It is a detailed historical document all about this intense character who roamed the northeast on foot in the mid to late 1800s.

About twelve years ago on a winters day hike my friend Tim R., his kids and I stumbled upon one of his old caves. That night I was inspired to write not one but two songs about the man (the second, not so creatively titled "Leatherman II" was never released…definitely the more somber of the two).

While this book offers up his life and times in the most complete manner as possible, the mystery of Leather Man remains intact.

It’s also interesting to note the parallels between the Leather Man and Chris McCandless who we got to know through Into the Wild.

Just thought I’d pass it on…

Ed

... but then he mentioned a potential, future B-side, and I got all giddy.

Backspacer's Second Single: Just Breathe

I guess this makes it official.

All That's Sacred, Episode #25

Episode #25 is now available.

You asked for it and you got it. Episode #25 explores some Ed’s better rants over the years as suggested by you listeners. In fact the response was so overwhelming, I actually had more rants than I could use for one podcast. So in addition to those played today, another episode in the very near future will feature those rants that were more politically-inspired. As always, I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions and thank you for taking the time to listen each week. Hope you enjoy #25.

Last night must have been off the hook b/c there is still no setlist posted on TwoFeetThick, Given To Cast, or the Grunge Report, and I can usually count on waking up to setlists on all 3 of those sites.  So, we'll have to stick with my personal highlight so far, which I think was last night (Halloween).  BUGS!
