Pearl Jam's touring in 2005 was unique among all their years of performing because the major tours of the year were not centered around dates in the United States. After appearing at a number of benefits early in the year, including one for Montana Senate candidate Jon Tester, the band used only their second appearance at Washington's famous Gorge Amphitheater to launch an extensive tour of Canada. Thier trip to the great white north included sixteen dates, in such well known places as Toronto and Montreal, as well as dates in lesser known hamlets like Saskatoon and Thunder Bay. The band's return to the States saw an opening slot for The Rolling Stones in Pittsburgh and a benefit show with the legendary Robert Plant in Chicago, as well as two nights in Atlantic City and a show in Philadelphia. The end of the year brought Pearl Jam to South American for the very first time; they played nine shows there and followed them up with three shows in Mexico. There were a number of rumors that new material would be played on these tours, but they did not pan out...well, not really. A song called "Crapshoot Rapture" was played in Seattle, and would be reworked into Comatose. Gone was played by Ed solo in Atlantic City the day after it was written; it underwent few changes before being released on Pearl Jam in 2006.
