U2 is a rock band hailing from Dublin, Ireland. They formed in 1976 with Bono (real name: Paul David Hewson) on vocals, The Edge (real name: David Howell Evans) on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass, and Larry Mullen, Jr. on drums. The lineup remains the same to this day. Since the release of their fourth album, The Joshua Tree in 1987, they have consistently been one of the most popular and best-selling musical acts in the world. They are known for extensive, experimental and extremely successful tours; for example, their Vertigo tour spanned nearly two years and 137 shows, including 90 sold out shows in 2005.

- Pearl Jam opened four shows for U2 in 1993:
- Bono joined Pearl Jam to sing Rockin' In The Free World in Toronto on September 19, 2005.
- Pearl Jam joined U2 for Rockin' In The Free World at the Make Poverty History concert on November 17, 2006 in Melbourne, Australia.
- Pearl Jam opened for U2 on December 9, 2006 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They joined U2 during their set for Rockin' In The Free World.
