Dave Krusen Returns to Pearl Jam

As Matt Cameron's battle with COVID-19 continues, Pearl Jam fills his slot with yet another drummer.  Last night in Fresno, Pearl Jam continued to play with Richard Stuverud and Josh Klinghoffer on drums, but added in the original Pearl Jam drummer, Dave Krusen, who played for nine of the eleven songs on Ten and State of Love and Trust.  Krusen, the drummer on Ten, last joined Pearl Jam for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2017.

We're hoping for Cameron's recovery by tomorrow night's show in Sacramento, but for now, Pearl Jam is creating some amazing shows in the meantime.

Josh Klinghoffer, Richard Stuverud, and Some Guy Named Josh Arroyo

Pearl Jam opened their Oakland show last night with ... checks notes ... Rockin' in the Free World, and that wasn't even the craziest thing that happened last night!

Missing his first Pearl Jam show in 24 years, Matt Cameron had to sit out last night's show due to a case of COVID-19, and fans have lost their minds.  Touring guitarist and Pluralone frontman, Josh Klinghoffer, and friend of the band, Richard Stuverud, took turns behind the set throughout the show.

Fans have absolutely loved the change up.  By all accounts, both musicians did an amazing job.  Is Matt Cameron nervous or is that just COVID making him sweat?  Check out a few videos from last night.

And then, making one fan's dreams come true, Jeff spotted a fan in the audience with the names of the Pearl Jam drummers on his shirt, and it turns out, that guy could play drums.  So the band brought him on stage, introduced Josh Arroyo to the world, and proceeded to close the concert with him playing drums on Yellow Ledbetter.

CDC's COVID-19 protocols currently call for five days of isolation, so Matt will definitely miss tonight's show in Oakland and possibly the show in Fresno on Monday, so are we in store for more craziness?  Are Jack Irons and Dave Abbruzzesse busy?  Isn't Matt Chamberlain hanging out with Stone lately?  Where is Jimmy Shoaf?

And most importantly, does Josh Arroyo have tickets for tonight's show?

Pearl Jam in Los Angeles

Drink the Ocean by Painted Shield

Painted Shield was forced to push back the release of their second album, Painted Shield 2, until May 27th, but in the meantime, we've got a new song.  Drink the Ocean gives us half of the album already on YouTube.

Tar & Feathers by Ament, Pluralone, and Wicks

Jeff Ament, Pluralone, and John Wicks have released another of the songs they wrote for the FX series, Under the Banner of Heaven. The dark, cold vibe of the new song, Tar & Feathers, remains consistent from Families are Forever.

Hopefully, we can look forward to more great music from this collaboration in the future.

Families are Forever by Ament / Pluralone / Wicks

Last week, Jeff Ament announced that he had been working with Josh Klinghoffer's band, Pluralone, John Wicks (Fitz and the Tantrums), and producer, Josh Evans to craft music for the FX series, Under the Banner of Heaven, based on Jon Krakauer's book.

Yesterday, they released a ghostly tune, Families are Forever, on social media.  We're looking forward to the possibility of more music from the collaboration.
