Check it out for songs by the Melvins, Soundgarden, and huge pile of Pearl Jam side projects. While you're there, check out their Epic Encore Playlist.

And just like that, we know what songs we missed out on at this week's surprise Ed appearance in Hawaii.

Ed Plays Private Show for Salesforce.com

We don't have much else than a tweeted picture and a lot of conjecture, but it seems certain that Eddie Vedder played a show for a private Salesforce.com event in Hawaii.  It's likely his fee went to charity, but at this point, we don't know which one or what songs he played (well, other than Betterman).

Mike McCready Helps Score Stripped

Mike McCready has been working with Stefan Lessard of the Dave Matthews Band on another score.  This time he worked on Stripped, a documentary about comic strips.  The film debuted last fall, but is due out on iTunes next week on March 26th.

Stripped is a full-length documentary on the world’s best cartoonists, featuring the first-ever recorded interview with Bill Watterson. The film explores the art of the comics strip, the cartoonists behind your favorite strips, and where the art form goes as newspapers die.
You can purchase tickets for screenings or pre-order the film on iTunes.

Future Days To Be Third Lightning Bolt Single, Video and Tour Announcement On The Way?

Unconfirmed by anything other than this screenshot posted by New York DJ Rich Russo on Twitter, Pearl Jam appears to have decided on their third single for Lightning Bolt.  That doesn't mean a heck of a lot in an age when Pearl Jam doesn't release any material singles on CD or vinyl, but there is a bit of exciting news hiding at the bottom of the picture.

"New video & tour dates coming soon!"

Mike Pays Homage to Spinal Tap

Mike McCready shows a little of his Spinal Tap love in honor of their 30th anniversary with his own personal Top Ten ... oh, I mean ELEVEN list.  Here's what he had to say about the group.
I've seen the movie 100 plus times and live Spinal Tap moments through my career in Pearl Jam. We actually did get semi-lost in Cleveland. I have had a radio frequency interrupt my guitar solo a few times. I have met many Arte Fufkins, Bobbi Fleckmans and Sir Eton-Hoggs along the way. Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean are my favorite comedy team. Spinal Tap is when they hit absolute brilliance … and the songs are great too.

Flight to Mars and (Maybe?) The Rockfords

Last night, Mike McCready took the reigns at KEXP for three hours and played all of his favorites.  During that time we got two hints or teasers about 2014 side project performances.

The first was that we will most likely have a Flight To Mars benefit at The Showbox in May (@FTMSeattle):
You heard it on @KEXP first! @MikeMcCreadyPJ teases FTM on May 16th at The Showbox!
The second was that we maybe, could, possibly, get a Rockfords show (@rickfriel):
You heard it here first on @kexp The Rockfords might play a show this year.
We're still waiting for conformation from official sources, but keep your eyes open.

Matt Chamberlain Announced as Soundgarden's Drummer

The Soundgarden/Pearl Jam family grows even tighter today, as Soundgarden has announced that another Pearl Jam drummer will be serving as Matt Cameron's temporary replacement.  According to AntiQuiet, Matt Chamberlain will be sitting behind the set for 2014 as Soundgarden's drummer, probably playing longer with that band than he did for Pearl Jam (two months from July to August 1991).

Soundgarden will be touring after all of Pearl Jam's currently scheduled shows are complete, so it's not known who will be drumming in the latter half of 2014.  Stay tuned!

Free Ride by Brandi Carlile and Mike McCready

The movie, Free Ride, starring Anna Paquin and coming to DVD and BluRay next month, featured a song written and performed by Brandi Carlile and Mike McCready (and Stone Gossard and Barrett Martin).  Continuing their "straight to eBay" series, the Ten Club made a small number of 7" available on their website with an instrumental version on the b-side which have sold out.  Look for them on the secondary market or hope for a digital copy to be available soon.

Neil Young Launches Digital Audio Player for Audiophiles

What if your iPod sounded 30X better?  If you answered, "Yes, please!" then Neil Young has the answer for you.  At South By Southwest, Young announced a Kickstarter campaign to launch a new audio player called a PonoPlayer that supports songs up to 9216 kbps.  What does that mean to you?  If you don't know, than this product probably isn't for you.

... Unless!  You're a rabid Pearl Jam fan, because many artists (Young, Arcade Fire, Beck, Patti Smith, Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, and more) are offering a special signature series PonoPlayer which comes with their laser-etched signature and their two favorite albums pre-loaded for $400.  There are currently a little under 400 of Pearl Jam's remaining.
ARTIST SIGNATURE SERIES: PEARL JAM – Limited Edition Artist PonoPlayer in Chrome. Laser engraved with artist's signature. Comes pre-loaded with artist's top two favorite albums. Handmade leather case with presentation box. Plus: Website Thanks Limited (387 of 500 remaining)
Estimated delivery: Oct 2014
If you've ever been pissed that Pearl Jam records their mp3s at a low bitrate or demanded that the show you recorded never be converted to mp3s, than it is probably time for you to support this Kickstarter right now!

Mudhoney: The Sound and the Fury From Seattle

Earlier this week, we told you about a Mudhoney documentary featuring Jeff & Stone, now ... the book.

Spin Magazine has an exclusive exerpt from Keith Cameron's Mudhoney biography due out later this month (March 21st).  Jeff and Stone's history with Mark Arm and Steve Turner will obviously gain mention, but the exert from Spin talks about the band's touring with Nirvana and Pearl Jam and the lessons they learned during that tour.  Here's a snippet, but head over to Spin or buy the book for more.
"You didn't really know what the other one thought," says Arm. "You could make up all sorts of stuff in your head that might or might not be true. The perception at the time was that Pearl Jam was a sellout major label band and Nirvana was the band that came up through punk rock—which was a crazy myth, but that's the way things were. Jeff was in a hardcore band, he had a fanzine, he was more involved in the punk rock and hardcore scene than Kurt Cobain ever was. And Stone and Jeff were in Green River, which was on Sub Pop. The roots are just as deep."
 ....

"Our shows suck," says Dan. "We have a good time, but the audience don't wanna see anybody except for Eddie. Fair enough. They didn't boo us by any means, but they just sit there and politely wait for their Eddie to come out. But that tour was a gas. Pearl Jam's a band you could look at as a model of how to do things properly in the rock world. They treat people with respect, they surround themselves with straight-up, honest people."

I'm Now: The Story of Mudhoney Features Interviews with Stone and Jeff

Earlier this month, King of Hearts Productions, released a Mudhoney Documentary called I'm Now: The Story of Mudhoney.  The movie features interviews from Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard who were in Green River with Mark Arm and Steve Turner in the pre-Mudhoney/pre-Pearl Jam days.

Check it out.  You can purchase the DVD here or check out reviews and deleted scenes on the official website.
This documentary tells the story of Mudhoney from their very beginnings, to following them on their recent world tour and everything in between. Complete with testimonials from friends, music industry veterans, and musicians such as Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard & Jeff Ament, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore & Kim Gordon, Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil, and Mudhoney themselves, this movie shows the true story of the founding fathers of Grunge (please do not describe Mudhoney as the founding fathers of Grunge).
