Our first Most Pearl Jam Moment of 2024 is Ed's Walter Payton jersey. It was worn for every show ... nearly every show ... maybe every show ... he wore it a lot. Sorry, we saved all our research for our book. The band played 37 shows this year and there are pictures of every show on their website.
The fact is, Pearl Jam concerts are 80% about the music and 20% about figuring out why Ed likes that jersey so much. Is it because he's a Chicago fan? Was it because Trump was convicted of 34 felonies? Is it because 2024 was Pearl Jam's 34th year as a band? Was he getting ready for Payton's son, Marshall, to visit the stage in Chicago?
It was probably all of those things, but frankly we were talking. Were we also talking about the hat? Well, yes, but we'll call that an honorable mention. He's clearly supermanning those with a whole collection of them behind Matt's drumkit.
